In the traditions of weddings everywhere around the world, a bride must look beautiful! Featuring over 40 wedding gowns from the museum’s extraordinary permanent costume collection, the elegant exhibition will examine many of the details that make the gown and its wearer special – the richness or simplicity of fabric, the use of lace or trains, the prominence of bustles, and hemlines that go up and down as women gain emancipation or surrender it. The exhibition will create an intimate and informative experience within the larger historical context where visitors can experience particular moments of cultural interest or simply enjoy a single gown’s extraordinary beauty.
The exhibition will also include a collection of historic wedding photos and other bridal ephemera. One highlight is an original marriage license dating back to the Civil War era.
The public is invited to attend a FREE opening reception on Sunday, June 28 from 2-4 p.m.

This exhibit demonstrates that women were, indeed, in a league of their own as far as baseball was concerned. Documenting the story of women’s baseball from its beginnings at Vassar College in 1866 into the 20th century, the exhibit showcases many of the pioneering players as they barnstormed across the country from one game to the next. On display will be more than 50 images and objects from one of the nation’s largest collections of women’s baseball memorabilia, including a 1910 postcard featuring the Boston Bloomers, “Ladies Champion Baseball Club of the World.”

Jurors for the show are the museum’s Curator of Exhibitions Ann Aptaker and Curator of Education Karen Kwarciak.
